This is a locked harbour; the locks are opened one hour before high tide and stay open until one hour after. The marina has 25 berths along pontoons with water and electricity laid on. Electricity is extra paid by metered card purchased at the office. It is advisable to announce your intentions to the Harbourmaster's office before entering the harbour as there is often commercial traffic (very large freighters and tankers) and few open berths. There are 120 yacht moorings and large commerical vessel moorings outside the harbour and a wall you can tie up to just outside the lock to await opening. You can also anchor between the mooring field and the channel, but otherwise Galway Bay offers little opportunity for anchoring until you get out as far as Cashla Bay. The Harbourmaster is Brian Sheridan.(+353) 91 562329 http://www.galwayharbour.com/shipping.php?id=85 They monitor VHF channels 12 & 16. Galway Bay Sailing Club also has visitor moorings. http://www.gbsc.ie/ Fuel is available delivered by truck by special order. West Sails (Yannick Lemonnier) https://sites.google.com/site/westsailsie/home is highly recommended. The chandlery s within walking distance of the harbour: Galway Maritime, Merchants Road (T: 091-566-568, M: 086-814-2578, olaf@galwaymaritime.net).
